FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
What is cosmetic tattooingIt is pigment implantation into the skin using a variation of needles depending on the technique used, tools are either manual or machine operated. It is like a body tattoo, however much gentler thanks to the technique and tools I use. My area of expertise is the face, Brows + Liner + Lips.

Is cosmetic tattooing painful?Every person has their own pain thresh hold and no two people are the same, while one person may feel no pain, others may feel slightly heightened levels of discomfort. There is a level of discomfort during the procedure, minimal discomfort if any. Some describe the experience as a tickle, and some as heat. You can take 2 Panadol before the procedure if you are feeling anxious about the discomfort. Panadol, no Nurofen, Ibuprofen or Asprin. No drugs or alcohol in your system for 24 hours.

Can I put my own numbing cream on the area you will be working on?No. DO NOT apply your own cream to the area that I will be working on. Numbing creams are formulated in their own way with different ingredients and different strengths of the ingredient! Not all creams are the same and because of this, I do not know how the cellular structure of your skin along with a foreign cream, will hold up against my work. I will apply my own trusted anaesthetic creams and gels because I know exactly how the skin will take it and how the integrity of the skin will hold and heal.

Can I tell you what I want, and you do it?"Yes & No. Yes because I do want to know what you expect from me, yes because I want to know what you envision for yourself, style, thickness, gradient, length, width and colour. I want to know everything. No, because I won’t do it how you envision IF I feel it won’t add value to your features + face shape, or if it’s not physically or technically possible. It’s got to look good; it has got to look great. I will chat to you and map what I think works best for you as an individual, I only want the best for you. I have a process and a formula in my mind that I follow when designing my cosmetic tattoos, when given the creative freedom to design and work, I work best and produce my best quality work.
-
I have a mole on my brow, can you colour it in?"Absolutely not. If moles are within my mapping, I need to avoid them. Moles can sometimes change in colour, width and diameter just out of the blue. If this change happens it can be quickly noticed and sorted with the appropriate procedures. If the mole were coloured in, none of these changes would be noticed in a timely manner. So, to keep you safe, we do not touch moles.
-
I have scars in the area, is that okay?"Yes. If it is a normal scar, we can go over it.
-
How many times do I need to see you for this procedure?Cosmetic Tattoo is a 2-step procedure. Initial appointment followed by a touch-up 6 – 8 weeks later. Sometimes a third is needed depending how well your skin takes the pigment, how good your aftercare is and how oily your skin is. You would then look at having your work touched up. Depending on your skin type, some annual touch-ups, some 2 or 3 years later. It is up to you and how you are feeling about your brows/liner/lips.
-
Can I bring a support person with me?In Covid19 Alert level 2 the answer is not right now. Once we are in level 1, you will be able to bring a support person, however they must sit away from the workspace and respect my boundaries. My time and energy is spent on my clients, unfortunately im not able to entertain the support person.
-
Can I bring my children with me?Children need their parents undivided attention. The studio is not safe for children, full of hazards and chemicals. Please make sure you have a trusted person to mind your children while you are away with me. Phones need to be turned off so that there are no distractions delaying me from working.
-
Can I excercise, after I've had my brows done?"The question here needs to be "can I sweat, after I've had my eyebrows done?" The answer is simple; Avoid strenuos exercise for 2 weeks. If you can't avoid it for 2 weeks then atleast 7 days. Pigment needs to settle in the skin post treatment and open skin needs to stay free of bacteria. Sweat will attact bacteria increasing the risk of infection. If you do sweat, clean immediately and gently.
-
Can I swim afterwards? No. Treat it as an open wound that needs to be kept clean. No public swimming pools, oceans, lakes, rivers, spa pools, saunas or float pods. Just dont. Bacteria and virus are the number one reason not to go near these while your tattoo is fresh with a compromised skin surface. It's on your face! It's not worth the risk.
-
My healing tattoo is itchy, is this normal?"Yes, skin may start to feel itchy during the healing phase. The cells outside the wound, migrate toward the center of the wound, meet and contract to pull the wound wound shut. This process creats a mechanical stress that activates the itch. It can also be a chemical reation within the body. The body will release Histamine in response to the wound and sudden exposure to outside elements as a protective function.
-
Will my tattoo shrink once its healed?YES! I promise it will shrink, and ill explain exactly why and how. When the skins surface is compromised, we get open skin/open wounds. The cells outside the wound, migrate toward the center of the wound, meet and contract to pull the wound wound shut. This process creats a mechanical stress that activates the itch so it can also be itchy.
-
Will my medication and skin condition affect my healed results? The condition of skin and inner health will determine the healed result. Because of this, results are not guarunteed.
-
Can I have cosmetic tattoo while I am pregnant or breast feeding? It's not a suitable treatment during pregnancy. Creating an open wound leaves the body vulnerable to infection; a risk not worth taking while growing a baby. Breast feeding is okay. I recommend expressing for 24hours after. This is because we will be introducing pigments and anaesthetic to your body/bloody stream. Anaesthetic can sometimes find its way into breastmilk. Risk of infection comes with tattoos. Please follow aftercare instructions closely and keep hand hygiene up.
